In 2023, the average cost of a wedding was around $35,000!  However, smart couples know that spending a lot of money isn’t required to have a beautiful, elegant wedding.  Many are choosing to forgo large, expensive weddings for private elopements or smaller, more intimate ceremonies, such as microweddings and minimonies.

So, what’s the difference between an elopement ceremony, microwedding and minimony?  An elopement is a quick, spontaneous wedding with just the bride and groom.  Oftentimes, the ceremony itself is a secret.  A minimony is similar to an elopement, but the marrying couple includes a handful of close loved ones.  A larger wedding ceremony and  reception with family and friends takes place at a later time.  A microwedding is a celebration of marriage that falls somewhere between a simple elopement ceremony and an elaborate, traditional wedding.  It’s shorter in duration, follows a more relaxed format and includes fewer guests (usually up to fifty).  Best of all, it’s much less stressful to plan than a large-scale wedding.

Why is there a trend toward small weddings or elopements?  Marrying couples have all kinds of practical reasons — in addition to reducing stress!  Some common ones include:

  • Saving money for a home, car or other expenditure.
  • Getting married for the second time.
  • Having limited time to plan a wedding because of a military deployment or other emergency.
  • Being nervous in front of a big group of people.
  • Avoiding the family/friend drama often associated with a large wedding.
  • Having a large wedding cancelled or postponed because of the coronavirus crisis.

Whatever your reason, the Fuller House Inn can help.  We offer several options for elopements, small weddings and custom wedding/receptions below.  Find the one that’s right for you!

Get your marriage license at the courthouse in Winchester, VA, then head over to the Fuller House for a private ceremony. (Photos by Susan Winkeler and David McLaughlin.)

“Fast, easy, quick, and affordable” are words frequently used to describe getting married, eloping, or renewing your vows in Winchester, Virginia.  Why?  Here are five reasons:

  1. No waiting period imposed
  2. No blood tests required
  3. No documents, other than photo I.D.’s, called for
  4. No witnesses needed
  5. No rings necessary

So, you can obtain your license at the courthouse, get married, and get your certified marriage documents all on the same day — fast, easy, quick, affordable!

If you live in Northern Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania or West Virginia, Winchester is easily accessible from Interstate 81 and other major routes.  And, if you live around major metropolitan areas like Baltimore, Philadelphia or Washington, DC, you’re almost certain to save money by getting married or eloping in Winchester.

And, just because the process of obtaining your marriage license is “fast,” that doesn’t mean you’re stuck having a “quick” elopement at the courthouse in public view.  Wouldn’t you rather have a private, romantic setting for your marriage?  Don’t you deserve a more meaningful experience on your wedding day?  Why not consider the Fuller House Inn?  We have several inexpensive options for you to choose from.
